Fractile raises 220 million dollars for AI inference chips

0

Fractile raised 220 million dollars in a funding round led by Accel, Factorial Funds, and Founders Fund. The company develops specialized chips and systems for next-generation AI scaling focused on inference workloads under tight power, thermal, and memory limits. The round supports Fractile’s hardware roadmap for large-scale model deployment and follows its earlier work on edge AI silicon limited to 6 GB RAM and 2k CUDA cores.

We’re thrilled to be backing @fractile_ai , solving inference at the edge of what’s possible. The current AI trend around infra and memory is deeply personal to me. A decade ago, I was part of a small team at Cruise pushing silicon to its limit. We were running perception and planning models on NVIDIA Titan with only 6GB of RAM & 2k CUDA cores. The chips were on-device, power-constrained, thermally limited. The car's air conditioning wasn't designed to dissipate that much heat so we had to engineer custom cooling. Everything was duct tape and ingenuity. It gave me a deep appreciation for doing more with less, and for founders like @goodwin_ml at Fractile who operate the same way. If you're the type who stares at the limits of physics and sees a challenge - reach out !

I am thrilled to share the news that Fractile's mission to build chips and systems that unlock the next generation of AI scaling has been bolstered, with a $220M funding round led by Accel, Factorial Funds, and Founders Fund, alongside some incredible backers old and new. AI inference is driving the defining infrastructure buildout of the 21st Century. We've written a bit about where we think capabilities must go, and how Fractile is working to bring this about: https://www.fractile.ai/news/fractile-raises-220m-to-build-the-next-generation-of-inference-hardware It has been a privilege working on one of the hardest but most rewarding technical challenges of our time for over three years, with the most brilliant, kind and driven people I could have ever hoped to work alongside. We are still just getting started. There is a lot to be done to deliver on our goals, but we are grateful to have the support of so many people in chasing these down every minute of every day. Thanks, all, for being part of the Fractile mission! 🚀 @fractile_ai
