Google DeepMind hired economist Alex Imas as Director of AGI Economics on Shane Legg’s team. Imas will lead cross-disciplinary work examining how frontier AI systems reshape economic outcomes. The new group studies AI’s effects on labor markets, wealth distribution, institutions, and deployment of AI agents within markets. The appointment integrates economic analysis with AGI research at the lab and was announced by Imas.
